In Krygyzstan, the "Tong" district is the only one place where hunters continue the tradition of eagle hunting. About a dozen of these hunters still train the birds to trap animals for their fur and meat. Only in the last 10 years has this type of hunting attracted the attention of tourists who now visit Bokonbaevo to see the regal birds take flight.
Visitors can accompany the hunters on a tour into the mountains and watch while the birds swoop down from a high ridge to strike at foxes and other quarry. "Trekking Center" also arrange demonstrations in south shore of the Issyk-Kul lake, allowing visitors to see how the birds are trained. The hunters use a fox skin or live rabbit, which the bird flies directly to and clasps between its talons in an awesome display of nature's fury.
After the demonstration visitors may ask questions to the hunter, and then pose for pictures with his eagle, some of which weigh over 6-7kg!
